Dust Extraction Systems for Industrial Applications

An effective dust extraction system captures airborne dust close to where it is generated, transports it through appropriately designed ductwork and separates the contaminant from the air using suitable dust collection or filtration equipment.

The right system depends on the process.

A woodworking facility generating timber dust and shavings can have very different requirements from a metalworking, mineral processing or bulk material handling operation.

Airtight Solutions designs dust extraction around the dust characteristics, machinery, required airflow, operating conditions and site layout, rather than treating the dust collector as a standalone piece of equipment.

How Does a Dust Extraction System Work?

A typical industrial dust extraction system has several stages:

1. Capture
Dust is captured as close as possible to the source using machine connections, hoods or other suitable extraction points.

2. Transport
Contaminated air travels through appropriately sized ductwork towards the dust collector.

3. Separation & Filtration
A dust collector, cyclone or other filtration equipment separates dust and particulate from the air stream.

4. Collection
Separated material is discharged into bins, bags, hoppers or other suitable collection and handling equipment.

5. Air Discharge
Filtered air is discharged according to the system design and application requirements.

Each stage needs to work together. A high-performance dust collector will not compensate for poorly positioned capture points, incorrectly sized ducting or insufficient airflow.
