Recommissions Dust Collector System with Airtight Solutions

Bingo Industries is committed to continual improvement, they identified an opportunity to enhance both staff safety and environmental standards by bringing a long inactive dust collector system (DC) back online. In doing so, Bingo aimed to improve air quality, reduce airborne particles in high-risk zones, and streamline production flow.

To bring this vision to life, Bingo engaged the expert team at Airtight Solutions, a proud part of The Environmental Group, renowned for their advanced dust control systems and deep industry experience. This collaboration marked the beginning of a two-stage transformation designed to reinstate and upgrade a critical part of the production process.

The Objective – Setting new standards for workplace safety

  • Recommission a DC dust collector system that had been out of action for over three years
  • Create a safer, cleaner working environment for Bingo’s staff
  • Improve dust capture and airflow to meet evolving environmental and operational standards
  • Prepare the site for future operational expansion

Stage 1: Strategic Upgrade – Laying the foundation for a safer facility

Bingo prioritised addressing immediate safety and ventilation concerns, capturing airborne particles and fumes directly at the source. With Airtight’s guidance, a custom engineered solution was implemented that included:

  • New fan installation: Industrial fans upgraded for optimal airflow, reducing airborne dust concentration in the working environment
  • Variable speed drive (VSD): Improved control and energy efficiency, tailoring performance to the operational demands
  • Custom ducting for MPC1: Purpose built modular ducting ensured the new system performed reliably across multiple work zones
  • Capture hoods installed: Designed to extract fumes and fine particles directly from conveyors, reducing respiratory risks for staff

Furthermore, this stage marked a major step in future-proofing Bingo’s dust management, improving air quality across the site and supporting a cleaner, safer workplace.

Stage 2: Full Refurbishment – Rebuilding the dust collector system for long term reliability

Following this upgrade, Bingo and Airtight are now preparing for a comprehensive refurbishment of the DC unit. In the next phase, Airtight will upgrade the system to meet the latest operational and safety benchmarks.:

  • Internal inspection and repair: Full internal access will allow the Airtight team to assess and restore key components including the outer conveyor, rotary valve, and internal ductwork.
  • DC clean out: Slurry, fine wood dust, and schwarf currently fill the unit. The Airtight team will inspect and replace all bags (socks) and cages as needed.
  • Component integrity: Damaged blowtubes, cages, or internal mechanisms will be identified and either repaired or replaced to ensure long-term performance.
  • Surrounding area cleaning: The team will clean railings, ladders, platforms, and staircases, especially if a VAC truck is deployed as part of the process.
  • Soft commissioning: Once fully refurbished, the system will be integrated and soft commissioned to validate functionality under operational conditions.

Challenges on the ground – Overcoming barriers around the dust collector system

The project has not been without its complexities, and the Airtight team have been critical in navigating the following site conditions:

  • Limited visibility and lighting around the DC, making inspections difficult
  • Confined space entry required for access, necessitating safe entry plans and potential modifications
  • Slippery surfaces and obstructions, including slurry, nails, and moving plant equipment
  • Strict timeframes to coordinate work safely around Bingo’s operational schedule

Nevertheless, Bingo remained focused on delivering a safer, more sustainable site, with Airtight providing the technical insight and on-ground support to maintain progress without compromising safety.
